SARTELL --When the new Sartell Community Center opens in August so will the city's community library.

Great River Board of Directors approved to create a Sartell library locker system, payment kiosk and book-drop during Tuesday's meeting. Executive Director Karen Pundsack says this is the first system of it's kind for the library.

"We're going to be accessing along the way to see if we need to provide more service than we are starting out with. We're going to go in slow and learn as we go," says Pundsack.

The delivery/return system will include 44 lockers and allow Sartell residents to pick up and return materials, renew existing checked-out materials and make payments on any fines without having to go to an official branch.

Pundsack says the locker system is a three-year program funded mostly through the city.

"The city is helping pay for the system itself, and they will be paying for the delivery of the material as well. We will be accessing as we go to see how demand changes over time," says Pundsack.

Pundsack says they plan to drop off books once a week and pick up books four days a week. The library locker system will be open during regular hours at the Sartell community center.
