ST. CLOUD -- After 13-years in the making, the expansion to the St. Cloud Civic Center is nearly finished.

Once completed at the end of December or early January, it will transform into the River's Edge Convention Center.

RECC Manager Bill Dunsmoor says there haven't really been too many hurdles since the project got underway.  He says the biggest challenge was holding conventions and shows during the demolition of part of the building.

The $21-million project had been up for state bonding money several times, but never made the cut with the exception of some planning money. It is being paid for with food and beverage tax dollars.

Now, St. Cloud officials plan to go back to St. Paul to lobby for state bonding dollars to build an adjacent parking ramp.
