ELY (AP) — Researchers believe a 3-year-old bear in Minnesota gave birth to a male cub and a female cub before an Internet audience last month.

Lynn Rogers of the Wildlife Research Institute, affiliated with North American Bear Center, says the camera in Jewel's den is now providing clearer images.

Rogers says with the improved view, researchers believe Jewel gave birth to a male cub and a female cub in her den near Ely on Jan. 22.

Researchers had to readjust the camera after Jewel bumped the PVC tube that contains the den cam.

Rogers says researchers are now looking for ways to tell the cubs' faces apart. He says the cubs may be too young for differences to show up.
