ST. CLOUD - Registration opened this week for the Can Am Police and Fire Games coming to St. Cloud next summer.

St. Cloud Police Sergeant Marty Sayre says there are 55 different events to choose from, at various venues around the metro area.

Sayre says most of the participants will be from the upper Midwest and central Canada.

Competitors can be full-time, part-time or volunteer police officers, firefighters, E-M-S, as well as military police.  Their spouses can also compete.

It's difficult to say how big of an economic impact the games will be for the area, but the games in 2004 in London, Ontario brought in $5 million for that community.

The week long competition will be June 24th through July 1st of next year.  St. Cloud was selected to host the games in 2009, they are held in either Canada or the United States every other year.
