Possible Sauk Rapids Drunk Driving Crash Leaves Two Hurt
SAUK RAPIDS -- A crash involving a possible drunk driver leaves two people hurt.
Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says the crash happened shortly before 5:00 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Mayhew Lake Road Northeast and 15th Street Northeast.
Twenty-nine-year-old Benjamin Theisen of Sauk Rapids was driving his SUV westbound on 15th Street Northeast when he didn't stop at the intersection of Mayhew Lake Road Northeast causing him to crash into a truck driven by 50-year-old Barbara Torres of Rice.
Theisen had a passenger in his SUV, 28-year-old Brady Haugen of Sauk Rapids. Haugen was trapped in the SUV and the Sauk Rapids Fire Department pulled him out of the SUV using extraction tools.
Torres suffered from non-life threatening injuries both her and Haugen were taken to the St. Cloud Hospital.
Theisen fled the scene after the crash, deputies found him in the St. Cloud Window parking lot near Industrial Blvd. in Sauk Rapids.
Deputies believe Theisen was under the influence of alcohol. Theisen was arrested for DUI, criminal vehicular operation and leaving the scene of an accident. He is currently being held in Benton County Jail.
