O’Mara Sentenced on Wisconsin Murder Charge
ASHLAND COUNTY, WI -- A woman who pleaded guilty to killing her ex-husband in his Sauk Rapids apartment has pleaded no contest to a murder charge in Wisconsin.
40-year-old Angelina O'Mara was then immediately sentenced on the first degree intentional homicide charges. She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The charge stemmed from a November 2011 incident where she shot and killed her boyfriend Michael Pies.
O'Mara had already pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the shooting death of James O'Mara back in December. She admitted to shooting her ex-husband once in the head with a .22 caliber rifle as he slept on the couch in November 2011. She was sentenced to life in prison in Minnesota. Both life sentences will run consecutively.
According to the criminal complaint from Ashland County Wisconsin, O'Mara checked into an Ashland hotel with her boyfriend Michael Pies a day after James O'Mara was killed. Pies was later found dead with a single gunshot wound the head. It was similar to the way O'Mara was killed.
O'Mara was found days later in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and extradited back to Minnesota to face the murder charge.
O'Mara will serve her sentence in a Minnesota prison.
