ST. CLOUD - Since 1985, the month of March has been designated by the National Association for Music Education as "Music in Our Schools Month".

Music in Our Schools Month started as a single statewide celebration in 1973 and has grown over the decades. In 1985, it was officially made a month long celebration of school music.

The event hopes to raise awareness on the importance and access to music education for children of all ages.

In Central Minnesota, Apollo High School band instructor George Zahn prides himself with the department at the school. He says the kids get along well and enjoy performing together during class.

"We have great kids, I want everyone to know that," Zahn says.

Zahn also stressed the importance of students participating in music education and playing an instrument. The Apollo band will have it's next scheduled concert on May 19th at 7:30 p.m.
