Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29 at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud for Melvin R. Stoppelman, 74 of St. Cloud who passed away at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud on Friday October 24, 2014. Burial with full military honors will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Melvin Russell Stoppelman was born on January 20, 1940 in Rockford to Rueben and Helen (Holland) Stoppelman. He has lived in the St. Cloud area since 1971. Melvin served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He worked as a welder for D.C.I. for 15 years retiring in 2005. Melvin was a member of the Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254, 40 & 8, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 of St. Cloud, and the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to air shows.

Survivors include his daughters, Jean (Roger) Dumler of Royalton, Diane Stoppelman of Kimball and Michelle (Jesse) Towne of Clearwater; siblings, Carol (Alvin) Theisen of Waite Park and Charles (Pat) Stoppelman of Maple Lake and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
