McGinnis Sentenced in Sartell Strip Mall Shooting
ST. CLOUD -- The man convicted of shooting and killing another man behind the Sartell Sprint store in March 2014 has been sentenced.
According to the Stearns County Attorney's Office, Judge Andrew Pearson sentenced 24-year-old Demetreus McGinnis to 17-and-a-half years behind bars.
McGinnis was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and witness tampering in the death of Maurice Galvin Jr. He was found not guilty of first degree murder, a second count of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to a criminal complaint, McGinnis and Galvin were behind a Sprint store and got into a struggle during which a gun went off. McGinnis' attorney claimed his client acted in self-defense after Galvin threatened him with a gun.
