Man Charged With Knife Hold-Up in St. Cloud
ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man is charged with robbing a man at knifepoint early Friday.
Twenty-five-year-old Joseph Sutherland is charged with felony 1st-degree aggravated robbery with a dangerous weapon.
St. Cloud Police were called to the 3700 block of Roosevelt Road around 1:00 a.m. Friday on a robbery complaint. A man said he was getting out of his truck when another man walked up to him and demanded his wallet.
When the victim said he didn't have his wallet on him, Sutherland is accused of pulling out the knife and threatening to use it. Records show the victim dropped his backpack and began to run away. He also saw Sutherland allegedly grab the pack and flee into the woods.
Police found Sutherland sitting in a vehicle, with a pocket knife and sweating profusely. Sutherland denied being in the area of the robbery and said he was looking for coyote tracks.
Officers say they discovered footprints in the snow similar to Sutherland's boots. They also found the victim's backpack nearby.
Sutherland is due in court next week.
