ST. CLOUD -- A Stearns County judge has ordered a mental competency examination for a St. Cloud woman accused of killing her father.

The Stearns County Attorney's Office says the defense for 38-year-old Lisa Kearney requested the exam to see if she is competent to stand trial in the murder of Jeffrey Schilling.

Kearney is charged with second degree murder in the January slaying. She lived with her father and is accused of killing him on either January 1st or 2nd at his home 335 21st Avenue North in St. Cloud.

Police officers were called on a welfare check on January 4th and found the 66-year-old Schilling dead on a couch. He died from blunt trauma to his head. Police say they found a short handled maul near his body which they believe is the murder weapon.

Kearney is being held on $1,000,000 bail and all future court proceedings are on hold pending the outcome of the exam.
