Twins Accomplish Something They Haven’t Done Since 2014
Don't look now, but the Minnesota Twins are just 1.5 games out of the American League Wild Card, and they are coming off a weekend in which they accomplished something they haven't done in more than a decade. They won a series against the Yankees...in New York.
Twins Finally Get A Series Win In New York
The Twins beat the Yankees in a series in New York for the first time since 2014. That means it's been more than a decade since the boys of summer were able to cross that off their in-season to-do list.
They were able to get the series win; they lost game 1 on Friday, 5-2, by scoring 17 runs over the final two games, and Joe Ryan gave the Twins 7 scoreless innings yesterday in a 6-1 series-clinching win. In going 7 scoreless, Ryan joined some exclusive Twins pitching company.
According to Reuters, Ryan became "the first Twin to toss at least seven shutout innings against the Yankees in New York since Johan Santana on July 27, 2005", that was 21-years ago.
A Twins All-Star Player Did Get Injured
Buxton left the game in the first inning after being thrown out stealing second base. Buxton told MLB.com that he was playing it safe after having missed 4 games earlier in the week due to a right hip impingement.
Buxton went on to tell MLB.com that "he felt the discomfort 'in between' running to second and sliding into the bag."

Both Buxton and Ryan were named to this year's American League All-Star Team.
The Twins hope to keep the momentum going, as they open up a 6-game home stand before the All-Star Break, with Cleveland and the Los Angeles Angels coming to town.
