SAUK RAPIDS -- New life is being given to a historic downtown Sauk Rapids building.

Hair & Body Works Salon and Spa is moving into the former Turch Jewelry building at 24 North Benton Drive. Owner Tanya Reisinger says they've been at their current location in the Centennial Plaza since 2004 and it was time for a change.

"We had been renting for 13 years and now we've decided to own a building. We really liked this location being that Sauk Rapids is growing and there's a lot of new businesses coming to the downtown Sauk Rapids area."

The former Turch Jewelry building has worn many hats throughout the years. Reisinger says it was originally home to a bank in 1917. Since the space has such a lengthy history, Reisinger says she plans to incorporate many of the existing pieces into the final design.

"We are keeping all of the stained glass windows and the vault. We've exposed the brick, it had wood paneling on it before. We also discovered the loft that was above it, (the vault) there wasn't a use for it before but we are going to make it a useful space."

A shampoo station and hairstylist's booth is expected to be in the loft area.

Hair & Body Works is a full-service salon and spa. Resinger says they plan to be open in their new location by the end of next month.
