The Gopher men's basketball team received a commitment from 5'11 160 pound point guard Dre Mathieu, a junior college transfer from Central Arizona Community College.  Mathieu chose Minnesota over Pepperdine and Ole Miss.  Mathieu is considered a quick point guard who fits the system new Gopher head coach Richard Pitino has.

The Gophers have 2 scholarships still available and are hoping to bring in transfers 6'9 260 pound Tarik Black from Memphis and 6'7 forward Rakeem Buckles from Florida International.  Black is a graduate student and could play immediately while Buckles is a trickier case since he transferred from Louisville to Florida International to play for Pitino there before wanting to join Pitino in Minnesota.  It's unclear if either player will end up in Minnesota.
