Fundraiser to Buy Prescription Drop Boxes for Tri-County Area
ST. CLOUD -- A foundation started after the prescription drug overdose death of a St. Cloud man plans to use the money raised from a Sunday golf tournament to buy drug drop boxes for area police departments.
Stearns County Chief Deputy Sheriff Bruce Bechtold says the Justin Pearson Foundation will use the proceeds to buy as many as 15 medication drop boxes for police stations in the Tri-County area. Bechtold says the disposal containers cost $1,000-$1,500 apiece.
Any additional money raised will go to buy Narcan -- a drug used to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose. Bechtold says those drugs would be used primarily for first-responders in rural areas.
The golf tournament at The Wapicada Golf Club Sunday is full, however, the public is welcome for a dinner at silent auction from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Additional donations to the foundation are also being sought.
