SARTELL -- The Sartell city council voted tonight (Monday) to allow food trucks in the city.

After months of discussion the Sartell city council unanimously approved an ordinance that would allow food trucks to operate within the city.

The ordinance went through many revisions before a final decision was agreed upon by the Economic Development Committee, Planning Commission and City Council.

To operate in the city food trucks must:

-Obtain all licenses
-Park on all eligible streets (as long as they are 50 feet from an intersection)
-Have no exterior signs (which are not painted on the truck)
-Operate from the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The council also voted that food trucks need to be 50 feet away from existing restaurants.

However, food trucks can park in business parking lots (ex. Coborns, city parks) or private property with permission from the site owner.

The ordinance will go into full effect this Friday.
