ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud Great River Regional Library is bringing back the Read Down Your Fines program Monday.

The program goes through Saturday, December 31. It helps kids, those 17-years-old and younger, to repay their overdue library fines by reading in the library.

For every 15 minutes a kid spends reading physical print materials, a magazine or book, will eliminate $1 in fines. Parents can also come and read to their children to help bring the fees down.

Each child that wants to reduce their fines will need to fill out a coupon to record their reading time. Coupons are available at the front desk and can be turned in to the front desk.

Read Down Your Fines is paid for through donations. The average fine paid off is $5.

The program started in 2013, since then over 900 kids have participated in it.
