
Fibranz and Trigg Capture State Titles; Nearly a Dozen Others Place at 2017 State Wrestling Tournament
The 2017 High School wrestling season is in the books, and the area has two new state champions -- Foley heavyweight Mitch Trigg and Sartell sophomore Cole Fibranz.
Another ten area kids placed in the top six, including former State Champion, Rylee Molitor, and two-time state finalist, Peter Nelson.
INDIVIDUALS WRAP UP
Class A
PIERZ
The Pioneers had two state place winners, including senior Brett Kapsner who made it all the way to the state finals.
106 - Brandon Funk (9) - Did Not Place, 0-2
120 - Jake Andres (10) - Did Not Place, 0-1
132 - Brandon Ortman (12) - Finished 6th, 2-3
138 - Reese Kapsner (10) - Did Not Place, 0-2
145 - Andrew Tomala (12) - Did Not Place, 0-2
152 - Jalen Jansen (11) - Did Not Place, 0-2
182 - Brett Kapsner (12) - State Runner-up, 3-1
195 - Matt Kummet (12) - Did Not Place, 2-2
220 - Carson Huls (10) - Did Not Place, 0-1
ROYALTON
All of Royalton’s entrants won at least two matches at the state tournament, and Jason Kasella wound up placing 3rd. His only loss was in the 2nd round to the eventual state champion, Christopher Bain.

FOLEY
Foley had three state place winners this year, including a state champion -- Junior Mitch Trigg.

113 - Dylan Young (12) - Did Not Place, 0-1
152 - Noah Lebfevre (12) - Did Not Place, 0-1
195 - Saylor Schmit (11) - State Runner- Up, 3-1
HWT - Mitch Trigg (11) - State Champion, 4-0
ST. CLOUD APOLLO
Senior Peter Nelson finished his high school career with another state finals match. He wrestled tough, but fell by a 2-1 score.
145 - Peter Nelson (12) - State Runner-up, 3-1
152 - Alex Pachan (12) - Did Not Place, 0-1
BECKER
Jaylin won his first match by a score of 3-2. He lost his next two matches, however, which ended his state tournament.
182 - Jaylin Hildebrandt (12) - Did Not Place, 1-2
Class AAA
ST. CLOUD TECH
Success was had by all three Tech wrestlers, but the tournament came to an unfortunate end for one. Senior Tyler Hugg was slammed in the semi-finals; a victory on paper after his opponent was disqualified for the illegal move. However, Tyler was not medically cleared for the finals, resulting in him having the forfeit.

HWT - Micah Mangel (12)- Did Not Place, 1-2
SAUK RAPIDS-RICE
The first round of state was a good one for the storm, as all 3 wrestlers won their matches. However, shortly thereafter they would find out that senior Tony Bemboom suffered a concussion and would not be able to continue. Rajkowski and Spohn would venture on in the tournament, but both would fall just short of the podium.

SARTELL-ST. STEPHEN
Sophomore Cole Fibranz won a state title, and two more Sabres podiumed, making the 2017 state tournament a successful one for Sartell.
