SARTELL -- A Canadian base trailer manufacturer located in Sartell will be closing it's doors in the next several weeks.

Sartell Planning and Community Development Director Anita Rasmussen says they received notice the company plans to shut down its facility located at 101 Benton Drive.

She says the poor economy and lack of demand in the industry is the main reason the company decide to stop operation.

"You know when you have a negative impact on the market, it certainly makes it difficult to sell goods," says Rasmussen.

Edmonton Trailers converted the former 30,000 square-foot Verso Paper Mill warehouse building into manufacturing plant and opened it's door back in 2015.

Rasmussen says because of the work they put in renovating the building they expect the building won't sit vacant for very long.

"There's no doubt together with the St. Cloud Development Corporation and Edmonton Trailers brokers that we'll have a new manufacturing business located within it."

As a result, 26 people will lose their jobs. Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation President Patti Gartland says they have reached to the affected employees to help provide resources in finding another job.

Back in 2014, the city council approved a loan process that would allow the company’s expansion to Sartell, which Rasmussen says Edmonton Trailers will be responsible for paying back.
