ST. JOSEPH - As you know, we've been bringing you highlights all week from the United Way of Central Minnesota's "Week of Action" volunteer effort.

Today, the Sauk River Watershed District has partnered with United Way to bring a day of water and environmental education to area kids at Millstream Park in St. Joseph.

Volunteers are manning stations where groups of fourth graders from area schools will get a hands-on education of aquatic animals, plants, natural resources and human impact on water quality.

Adam Hjelm is the Education Coordinator for the Sauk River Watershed District. He says this kind of experience can't be replicated in the classroom.

The educators are a mixture of city employees, community volunteers and St. Cloud State University Students. Hjelm says, over the course of the "Week of Action," over 1,000 area fourth graders will attend.
