ST. JOSEPH -- The search is over for a buyer for the current St. Joseph city hall and police station building.

City administrator Judy Weyrens announced tonight (Wednesday) at the St. Joseph City Council meeting that a credit union will soon occupy the space.

Collegeville Community Credit Union has been working with the city of St. Joseph to purchase the building.

CCCU spokesperson Colleen Hollinger Petters says the purchase agreement suggests the credit union will buy the current St. Joseph city hall and police station building in July and the city will lease the building back from the credit union until the city is ready to move into their new government center.

"One of the reasons we really love this location is a lot of our base of members are now from this area. We really want to be convenient for them, it's definitely higher visibility and higher traffic site, which we know will help us grow." --Hollinger Petters

The new St. Joseph government center will be just west of Colts Academy. Construction started on the building earlier this spring, it's expected to be completed by February 2017.
