COLD SPRING -- A discussion about bringing a solar farm to Cold Spring was brought before the city council during tonight's (Tuesday) meeting.

Public Works Director Paul Hoeschen brought the idea to the council as a way to provide better energy use for the wastewater treatment facility.

A representative with tenKsolar provided a presentation to the council on the benefits of adding a solar farm to the city.

After the presentation several council members were concerned with several issues such as maintenance, cost and how much energy the city would receive.

In order for a solar farm to come the Cold Spring the city would need to find at least five other businesses to agree to partner with the project, and a site would need to be establish.

Cold Spring Mayor Bob Thelen says they are in the very early stages but are always trying to find ways to be more energy efficient.

He says he would like to bring the topic back for discussion in September to allow time to work on final numbers, site and find partners to go in on the project.

Sartell is currently in the process of adding a solar garden to the city.
