Closing Arguments Expected Today in McGinnis Murder Trial
ST. CLOUD -- Closing arguments are expected today in the trial of Demetreus McGinnis who is accused of shooting and killing Maurice Galvin Jr. outside the Sartell Sprint store last March.
Stearns County Prosecutor Will Brost rested his case Monday afternoon and closing arguments will be held after the defense rests its case.
McGinnis is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and one count each of third-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and witness tampering.
According to the criminal complaint, McGinnis and Galvin got into an argument during a drug deal and a struggle ensued. McGinnis is accused of shooting Galvin in the chest during that struggle.
McGinnis is maintaining it was self defense and it was Galvin who threatened him with the gun.
