WOODBURY, (AP) - A runaway bull managed to dodge rush hour traffic in the Twin Cities, but was fatally shot by law enforcement officers concerned about public safety risk.

Authorities say the 1,600-pound bull ran in and out of traffic just south of Interstate 94 about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Washington County Sheriff's Sgt. Thomas Stafford says authorities talked about tranquilizing the wayward bull, but decided to shoot it because of the safety risk it posed.

The bull was probably more dangerous than a bear in this situation because a bear's objective is to get away from humans, but that's not the case with a domestic bull.

Stafford says the bull's owner gave permission to have it shot and collected the animal after officers "dispatched" it.
