ST. CLOUD - Benton County has approved a resolution to support a study to grow operations at the St. Cloud Regional Airport.

The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation has taken the lead in asking the three-county area to support a resolution seeking a grant to fund the study. Benton County administrator Monty Headley says the study will look into alternative options to develop the airport.

"That funding would be used for a study of the St. Cloud Airport and also the airport industrial park. It would try to determine what some good uses would be for the area and what kind of alternatives are available."

Stearns and Sherburne County have both approved the same resolution.

The study does not address the creation of a regional airport authority. The development corporation scaled the application back to simply look into the development of the airport and industrial park.

The issue of a regional airport authority will be addressed in the future.
