AUSTIN (AP) — Four family members were killed in a fiery one-vehicle crash in southern Minnesota.

The crash happened Thursday evening in Austin. Police Chief David McKichan says when officers and firefighters arrived they did not see any signs of life inside the vehicle.

A man, woman and two children younger than 5 were in the car and police believe they were all members of the same family.

Police believe the car was heading east when it left a road, hit some trees and went down an embankment, coming to rest near the water treatment plant near the Cedar River.

The cause is still being investigated.
