WAITE PARK -- Waite Park officials will consider putting a moratorium on their commercial district during tonight's city council meeting.

The moratorium would affect developments that are pursuing conditional use permits or variances along Highways 23, from the new Luther Honda location to just before Division Street, for the next six to eight months.

Planning and Community Development Director Jon Noerenberg says the moratorium isn't meant to block any project but instead to reevaluate the district's usage.

"We're trying to take a step back and reevaluate a lot of the standards in that district, now that we are nearly filled out, and see what are the best options for those areas," says Noerenberg.

Noerenberg says currently there are no projects that would be affected by the moratorium.

If approved, staff would take some time talking with current property owners in the area and bring back any recommendations to the council at a future meeting.
