MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for a wide swath of the Dakotas, Minnesota and several counties in western Wisconsin with predictions of up to a foot of heavy, wet snow in some areas.

Snow was falling across much of eastern North and South Dakota Saturday morning, with a mixed bag of precipitation in far southeastern South Dakota that included rain, freezing rain and sleet. There were reports of street flooding and power outages in Sioux Falls. Heavy snow is predicted later Saturday.

Residents in the Minneapolis metropolitan area were preparing for a mix of rain or snow to arrive Saturday afternoon, turning to heavy snow in the evening.

The weather service says travel in the Dakotas and Minnesota will become hazardous or impossible.
