ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud Zoning Board of Appeals voted five-to-two in favor of expanding the quarry operations after a three hour discussion tonight (Tuesday).

The vote now allows Coldspring, formerly known as Cold Spring Granite, to expand it's site by 3.4 acres towards the east side which would increase the 11 acre area to 14.4 acres.

Back in October the company withdrew plans for a much larger expansion after city staff and residents had concerns.

Many residents were present at the hearing to address their concerns the expansion would have on the environment, health and property values.

The agreement to the new application comes with a number of conditions from city staff that Coldspring would need to meet.

Some of the recommendations included truck and tractor trailer traffic, and hours of operations.

While the vote was carried out, the decision could be appealed by the applicant, City Council, or Mayor Dave Kleis.
