ST. CLOUD - Residents in Southwest St. Cloud had their first opportunity to speak out about a proposed quarry expansion, during this (Tuesday) evening's Zoning Board of Appeals meeting.

The board held a public hearing on a request for a Conditional Use Permit for Coldspring -- formerly known as Cold Spring Granite Company.

A company spokesman says they want to expand their quarry and processing area on a small section of their land.

The granite would be hauled and crushed seven days a week, 24 hours a day, from late March into early November.  There would also be about three blasts from the site each week.

Neighbors to the site, like Jerry McCarter, raised concerns about increased traffic, and the additional noise.

The Zoning Board has left the public hearing open, and has not made a final decision.  They plan to carry the discussion over to their September meeting.
