ST. CLOUD -- With Christmas finally here the State Patrol is reminding travelers and party goers to plan ahead before you celebrate.

With the increase amount of traffic on the roads this weekend, The Minnesota State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will be out in full force.

Sgt. Jesse Grabow with the Minnesota State Patrol says over the last five years they've seen an increase in drunk driving related fatalities over Christmas.

"About forty-six percent of all traffic fatalities occur over this Christmas holiday period," says Grabow.

To make sure you and your loved ones stay safe, Grabow says it's important to plan ahead and find a sober ride.

"Let your loved ones know, let the people you care about know that you are there to get them home safe. It's always about planning ahead and being prepared," says Grabow.

Christmas Eve (tomorrow) and Christmas Days (Friday) are historically the busiest travel days of the year.
