ST. JOSEPH - St. Joseph is looking to move ahead with a proposed 745,000 foot distribution center.

The center is proposed on 98.92 acres of mostly agricultural land in St. Joseph. The proposed location for the center is near 19th Avenue Northeast and County Road 133.

The city council approved an environmental assessment worksheet on Monday night after finding no need for an enviromental impact statement on the project.

City documents say KDN Holdings, a food service supplier based in Massachusetts, is the company exploring the land.

City administrator Judy Weyrens says it's anticipated the planning process for the project will start over the next few months, with construction expected to start in 2016.

"We would anticipate the developer to start submitting some plans for review for possibly a spring or early summer construction."

The project will be serviced by municipal sewer and water. Mayor Rick Schultz has previously said the center would employ around 200 people.
