ST. JOSEPH - St. Joseph is moving to buy the Colts Academy building from the St. Cloud Area School District for a possible community center.

The building used to be the Kennedy Community School and is at 124 1st Avenue Southeast. District 742 will review selling the building to the city for $2.3 million on Wednesday night.

The St. Joseph city council will need to take formal action in the future to officially buy the building.

St. Joseph Mayor Rick Schultz says the school board finance and audit committee recently approved the sale of the building.

"It was submitted to the finance committee, they approved it and now it's going to the school board on Wednesday after the council approved it to move forward."

The building currently houses the early childhood programs that were moved to the area after the Roosevelt building was partially destroyed by a fire last year.

District 742 executive director of business services, Kevin Januszewski says if the sale is approved the programs would stay in the building until a new location is found for them.
