ST. JOSEPH -- The St. Joseph City Council voted to move forward with plans to build a new government center last Thursday.

Their current building will need to be demolished in order to make room for the new facility.

The They hope to add a community room and expand the police department's space.

City administrator, Judy Weyrens says they plan to add interrogation rooms.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be between $4.4-million and $4.6-million. The council agreed to move forward with the construction design plans and bid the project.

If they choose to move forward once the bidding process is complete construction should begin in the spring of 2014.

The council will then look at potential spaces to relocate until the project is completed.
