MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Spirit Airlines said Wednesday it will begin service from the Twin Cities to Chicago and Las Vegas in May.

Metropolitan Airports Commission chairman Dan Boivin says Spirit's low fare business model will provide a valuable alternative for cost-conscious travelers.

The airline says it plans to offer three daily flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to Chicago O'Hare Airport and one to Las Vegas.

Spirit says it hopes to compete with Delta and other carriers by offering low base ticket prices, plus fees for the services travelers choose.
