WAITE PARK -- Plans to build another two-hotel development have gotten the green light from Waite Park officials.

During tonight's (Monday) city council meeting the council unanimously approved the final plat and PUD for the proposed site.

Miller Architects is planning to build a 90-room Staybridge Suites extended-stay hotel and a 120-room Holiday Inn, including a restaurant and bar, on a vacant lot next to Menards along Highway 23.

Dan Miller with Miller Architects says with this approval they are just one small step from shovel ready.

"Some of the remaining items we have are fairly minor, but we should be ready to go," says Miller.

Construction will be done in two phases on the nearly 18 acre site.

Miller says they will begin constructing the 90-room Staybridge Suites extended-stay hotel first.

"We're hoping to start site construction here late summer or early fall," says Miller.

Miller Architects still needs approval from the council before they can begin construction on the second hotel, which should happen once the final designs for the Holiday Inn site are finished.

The Staybridge Suites is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016, with the Holiday Inn to follow after.

These two hotels are in addition to another separate project to build two hotels on the site of a trailer park, near 6th Avenue.
