ST. JOSEPH - A new brewery is coming to downtown St. Joseph.

Bad Habit Brewing Company will be moving into the Mill Stream Shops building at 15 East Minnesota Street.

Owner Aaron Rieland says they will have rotating taps every month and that this approach will allow them to offer something new for people to try when they stop by the brewery. They will start with four to five rotating varieties of beer along with homebrewed sodas.

Remodeling and reconstruction of the space is expected to take place in mid-June with a September opening planned.

St. Joseph adjusted their liquor ordinance shortly before the announcement to allow for a breweries and taprooms in the city.

St. Joseph was approached about the plan for Bad Habit Brewing Company to move in, but didn't have a provision in their city liquor ordinance to grant a license.

The amendment to the ordinance now allows the city to approve breweries and taprooms. The ordinance is the same as other cities like St. Cloud.

A taproom is attached to a brewery where the beer that's brewed can be served. The ordinance also allows breweries to sell their own beer in 64-ounce growler containers.
