ST. CLOUD - Despite recent declines in enrollment, the amount of international students at St. Cloud State University are increasing.

Chad Broeker with the international student and scholar services department says the University has seen an 8.9 percent increase in international students this year.

Broeker says there are also more countries represented at SCSU this year.

According to the Institute of International Education, Minnesota is 19th in the nation for amount of international students with 13,232 enrolled in 2013. St. Cloud State in particular has made a big push to bring in more international students.

The University now has the second highest number of international students in the state, behind the University of Minnesota.

Broeker says international students are valuable to creating an expanded world view on campus. In order to help students feel comfortable on campus, international students receive an extra week-long orinetation before classes start. Orinetation includes presentations on classroom culture and academic policy.
