Living in Minnesota comes with some strange notions from people living in other states, and especially those living in the Southern part of the country.  Some of these things are just laughable, like when I had someone who had never been to Minnesota, or the Northern part of the country asked if we "ever get rid of your snow"?

Yes, yes we do. Snow is not here year round.  So that is one of the misconceptions about Minnesota.  We can be the state of extremes.  Blazin' hot and also super cold.  But one thing that does not happen here too often, is closing the whole city because of a snowstorm.  Things might open late, but we eventually clear out and head to work.  Usually.

Some things that people not from Minnesota think are true:

Minneapolis is NOT the capital of Minnesota.  That belongs to the other twin city, St. Paul.

Not everyone in Minnesota has the exaggerated accent like in the movie Fargo. But if get into some of the smaller rural areas, you may hear some similarities.

And speaking of Fargo, that city is NOT in Minnesota.  That's North Dakota, thank you!

Minnesota does NOT have snow all year round.  However, there can be very different weather from the Northern part of the state to the Southern part, on any given day.

Mall of America is a popular tourist attraction...to people NOT from Minnesota.  Locals find it a bit annoying.  However, personally, I think it can be fun since there are so many other things to do there other than shop.

Target?  Yes, that is part of Minnesota pride.  Unless, of course, you have some issues with some of the marketing that has happened over the years.

Let's talk coffee.  If having to choose between Starbucks and Caribou, let's go with  the Minnesota staple - Caribou.  Although many think that all of those places are overpriced.

Minnesota Nice.  It's more like Minne-Sorta-Nice.  Minnesotans tend to be very passive-aggressive.

Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes.  While it's true that we have a lot of lakes, it's actually much more than 10,000.  It's more like 11-12 thousand lakes.
