CAMP RIPLEY -- The lack of snow has caused the cancellation of two winter events at Camp Ripley.

The third annual Winter Warrior Sled Dog Race and the National Biathlon Championships for the National Guard will not take place at Camp Ripley this year.

The sled dog race was scheduled for February 14th and 15th but race coordinator Bob Bzdok says there is not enough snow on the trails to hold the event.

The Winter Warrior race is part of the competition circuit of the North Star Sled Dog Club, which has been organizing races in Minnesota since the 1960s.

The lack of snow has also forced the National Guard's Biathlon - which was scheduled for the first week March - to be moved to Camp Ethan Allen in Vermont.

Camp Ripley is scheduled to host both the Regional Biathlon and the Midwest American Sled Dog Championships in 2016.
