ST. PAUL (AP) -- An Inver Grove Heights man has been charged in a shooting that killed a father and injured the victim's 4-year-old son.

The victims were found inside their overturned SUV in St. Paul Oct. 6. Twenty-three-year-old Jeriko Boykin was fatally shot and his son suffered a bullet wound to his foot.

Police say Jeremy Carpenter was arrested on Tuesday when St. Paul officers pulled a vehicle over for faulty equipment. Carpenter was in the back seat and police say what turned out to be a loaded handgun under the seat in front of him.

He was arrested for a felony parole violation and later charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. It was not immediately clear if Carpenter has hired an attorney.
