Last Friday there was an update with Crowdstrike software.  It caused all kinds of issues, and one of the worst outages was with the airlines.  It took a bit, and many people were inconvenienced, but the other airlines such as Minnesota based Sun Country as well as Alegiant Airlines figured it out within a few hours or a day... and were up and running again.  Basically everyone was after a few glitches. All except for Delta.

The question is this... why is it that a large, supposedly premium airline such as Delta is the only airline still having major issues.  Passengers still stranded, luggage that actually made it to the destination, but without their owners. In some cases, if possible, passengers have opted to rent a car and drive to their destination instead of waiting endlessly for a flight. Getting booked, and again getting a delay... and eventually a cancellation.

KARE 11 reported that there was a group of passengers that made it onto the plane, taxied out and was about to get on the runway to take off only to be called back because the flight crew was over their alloted flight hours.  They needed to find another crew for that flight.  Meanwhile, passengers are sitting on the plane, on the tarmac waiting.  And waiting.  And waiting.  Back into the airport you go... and wait some more.

Bastian, the Delta CEO, said in a message to customers Sunday that the airline was continuing to restore operations that were disrupted. One of the tools Delta uses to track crews was affected and could not process the high number of changes triggered by the outage.

Will these passengers who are stranded in various places get refunds?  Comped hotel stays? Other compensation? Hopefully.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has urged Delta to provide prompt refunds, free rebooking, and reimbursements for food and hotel stays for affected passengers.

On Tuesday, he tweeted that the U.S. Department of Transportation opened an investigation into the airline to ensure that it is “following the law and taking care of its passengers during continued widespread disruptions.”

What does this say about Delta? One of the largest airlines in the world, and this software update has grounded them.  Maybe rethink the program??? Get a backup for the current program???  Questions.
