ROCKVILLE -- This week in our Home Town Spotlight series we roll into Rockville, where we reel in our catch of the day.

The giant bass statue has been mounted on the top of the Rockville Gas and Bait store for close to 30 years.

Becky Kneprath has been the store manager for about six years. She says the fish had an interesting time getting to business when it first arrived.

"When they brought him here, they couldn't get him under one of the overpasses on I-94, so they had to go 5 miles out of their way to get back on they highway and bring this big guy here," says Kneprath.

She says the fish has a strong bond with the community and for many visitors, seeing the fish has become an annual tradition.

"A lot of the tourists or the people who come back every year, always say they have to come to the fish store to get their bait and take their annual photo with the fish. I think that's pretty awesome," says Kneprath.

Kneprath says she's also noticed a younger generation admiring the fish thanks to Pokemon Go, which marks it as a stop destination.

The fish has become a vital part of the community of Rockville and Kneprath says she doesn't expect that to change.
