UNDATED -- The Minnesota Department of Health says the flu season is entering its peak here in the state.

State Epidemiologist Dr. Ruth Lynfield says there have been more reports of flu outbreaks in the last week and it is now considered widespread.

Last week 32 schools reported outbreaks, there were 42 hospitalizations and two long-term care facilities reported outbreaks.

But, Lynfield says it isn't the same as last season when we saw many more cases of the flu. So far this season the state has seen 253 hospitalizations.

Between September 2009 and April 2010, there were more than 1,500 hospitalizations.

She says there is still time to get your flu shot and as always, wash your hands with soap often. She says if you feel sick, stay home.
