ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A man and three boys have been arrested in connection with the beating of a St. Paul man who is now in critical condition.

Reports say 26-year-old Ray Widstrand has potentially fatal brain swelling.

Police say he was taking a late-night walk last Sunday when he tried to walk through a group of 30 to 50 juveniles and young adults who were fighting. Sgt. Paul Paulos says Widstrand was assaulted and knocked unconscious.

Witnesses told police he was attacked for no reason. They said one suspect hit Widstrand in the head, a second stomped on him and a third removed his pants so they could go through his pockets.

Widstrand's family says they can't understand why someone would do this to another person.
