SAUK RAPIDS -- Demolition crews will begin tearing down vacant houses Tuesday as part of the "3 Up the Hill" project in Sauk Rapids.

About 20 structures including some homes and garages will be demolished to make way for expanding Second Street North, also known as County Road 3.

Benton County Engineer Chris Byrd says crews are disconnecting city services starting today (Thursday) on the vacant properties to prepare the homes for demolition next week. Several foundations left from homes which have been relocated will also be demolished.

Crews will work Monday-Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and should have the project completed by the second week of November.

There should be little or no impact to motorists in the area.
