ST. CLOUD -- Governor Mark Dayton didn't include $6,000,000 to upgrade George Friedrich Park in his bonding proposal.

St. Cloud is looking for the money to improve the water quality in the swimming quarries, add acres to the park and create a master plan.

Mayor Dave Kleis says the plan is to make the southeast St. Cloud park 114 acres.

The city and St. Cloud State University recently completed a land swap for 51 acres at the park. It allowed the city to open the park for hiking and biking last fall and a master plan will be developed to create swimming, picnic and other amenities there.

Kleis says they have also requested the bonding money from members of the House and Senate and will be making their case when the legislature convenes in March.
