Columbia Heights Man Drowns in Quarry Park

ST. CLOUD - A Columbia Heights man drowned while swimming in Quarry Park and Nature Preserve, according to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office was called to the scene just after 6:15 p.m. Sunday to Quarry #11. A caller told dispatch that a man disappeared underwater while swimming in the middle of the quarry.

Authorities searched the area and found 34-year-old Juan Morales-Rosas of Columbia Heights two hours after he went missing. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance and was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say the drowning appears to be accidental. Foul play isn't suspected.

Gold Cross Ambulance, Waite Park Police and Waite Park Fire all helped the Sheriff's Office at the scene.
