
Cathedral Loses In OT To Hermantown
ST. PAUL - The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders lost in overtime 6-5 to the defending 1A champions Hermantown Hawks.
Cathedral held an early 2-0 lead after a couple quick goals from Connor Beltz and Micheal Spethmann.
The Crusaders let the early lead slip away when Hermantown tied the contest up 2-2.
Just over two minutes after the Hawks tied things up, the Crusaders were winning 5-2 after scoring three goals in a short time. The goals were scored by Reagan Garden, Jake VanHalbeck, and the 2nd from Beltz.
Looking at a three goal deficit the Hermantown Hawks turned it on. They out-shot Cathedral in the final 2 periods 41-15. The game would enter the 3rd with the Crusaders up 5-3.
Hermantown scored an important goal 55 seconds into the 3rd period to bring the game within one. Cathedral held on with all it could but the Hawks scored a few minutes later tying the contest at 5.
The two teams would not score again in regulation.
In OT the Hawks were flying, out shooting the Crusaders 11-0. Hermantown would score at the 7:38 mark into overtime sending the Hawks to the 1A championship game.
