Benton County Approves Wheelage Tax
FOLEY -- The Benton County Board of Commissioners has approved a plan to collect a $10 "wheelage tax" on vehicle license tab fees.
The board adopted the measure which will raise an estimated $320,000 in new road construction money.
County Administrator Monty Headley says the tax will go into effect January 1st.
The Legislature passed a law last session allowing greater Minnesota counties to join metro counties the option to levy the tax. It does not require a public hearing for approval.
Stearns County will vote on the same plan at their next meeting on July 30th.
